In 2013, my writing partner and I successfully raised $23,000 on Kickstater to fund a passion project called "Talents". An original ten episode series that focused on the employees of a dying art house movie theatre in Los Angeles, "Talents" is based on my experiences working in theatres when I was a teenager and in my early 20's.

The series was a huge undertaking. Over 40 actors and a small crew working with $23,000 to shoot a 182 page shooting script in 21 days.

What resulted was a darkly funny, Altman-esque character based ensemble about the love of film and coming of age no matter how old you are. It went on to be featured and well received at the 2015 Austin Film Festival, among other festivals over the following year.

All ten episodes are available online to stream below.

Gunner Dawson, manager of Playhouse Cinemas in Los Angeles, struggles to navigate the treacherous waters of single life and dating in the big city. Meanwhile, Playhouse employee Max Brenner juggles with the production of his own film, his friendship with pot-smoking child actor Chas Kavanagh and the seemingly random sightings of a mysterious stranger, Emilie, on the city subway line.

The Talents of Playhouse Cinemas kill time while the theatre’s business is slowly dying. Meanwhile, Gunner hopelessly struggles to endear himself to a new employee named Du'Quon.

Max deals with romantic and professional setbacks after a chance encounter with an old high school friend.

Chas faces a rude awakening after an awkward and eventually brutal lunch with his newly sober father.

Gunner considers a romance with the friendly barista who he sees on his daily break, and later has a somewhat discomforting encounter with a stranger calling himself Ken Jost.

When Max hits a snag in the production of his film, he seeks out his embittered former best friend Malcolm, thus re-igniting a forgotten history of buried resentments and terrible memories.

Emilie deals with an unsatisfying one night stand, a terminally depressed Arizona dad at work, and finally opens up to Max.

Chas decides to look for work at the behest of his addle-brained drug dealer, and ends up making a big decision.

Ken Jost’s love life becomes entwined with Gunner’s as he reveals sinister new depths to his personality, while Gunner finally takes control of his destiny.

In the season finale, Max looks to the past when considering his future, and in doing so, threatens to permanently ruin his relationship with his girlfriend and his friendship with Chas.
